Spring Handicap Details
The Spring Handicap Pairs were held on Tuesday 22nd
April 2008 at Hedge End Bridge Club.
The event was open to Hedge End members though non-members were able to
play in the event. They were not
entered into the handicap competition.
The handicaps were based on the average percentages that were
gained in duplicate sessions since 1st September. 50% was subtracted from the average
percentage to obtain the handicap for the evening. The 2 handicaps for each
player in a pair were added together to give the pair’s handicap. At the end of the event, each pair’s
handicap was subtracted from the actual percentage achieved to give an adjusted
percentage. The pair with highest
adjusted percentage was the winner of the Spring Handicap.
For example if PlayerA has an average percentage of 52.5% and
Player B has an average percentage of 54%, then their respective handicaps will
be 2.5% and 4%, and the pair’s handicap will be 6.5% If at the end of the evening, their actual percentage is 53.5%
then their adjusted handicap will be 47% (56.5% - 6.5%)
Similarly, if Player C has an average percentage of 48.5% and
Player D has an average percentage of 44%, then their respective handicaps will
be -1.5% and -6%, and the pair’s handicap will be -7.5% If at the end of the evening, their actual
percentage is 47.5% then their adjusted handicap will be 55% (47.5% - -7.5%)
The following table is a list of the handicaps for members up to
and including Tuesday 15th April, which was used in the event.
